Patron of Tin miners; Cornwall

Piran was a hermit near Padstow in Cornwall and sometimes called Perran. He is the patron saint of tin mines there and is often erroneously identified with St. Kyran (Kieran) of Saighir. His feast day is March 5th.

History of St.Piran (Perren) Church. St.Piren came from Irland and came ashore at what is now known as St.Piran sands. He was a very tall man 7Ft.2 inches. He joined a settalment there and became their religous leader. He taught christianity and how to mine tin. However at one of the celibrations in the settalment, the slaves/workers revolted, and the celibration turned ito an orgy. St.Piren and two of his close followers were murdered! That night very strong winds moved the sands, and compleatley buried the settalment, and everyone in it! It was lost for 100's of years. But evetuley the sands moved and revealed some of the buildings including the church. When they got inside the church they found 3 skeletons with the daggers that killed them, The middle skeleton was that of a man 7Ft.2inches tall. The skeletons were removed and buried close by, and a Celtic Cross placed with St.Pirans name onit! When I was 22 (1962) I went on Holiday to my Aunts place in Cubit. Cornwell. While exploring the sand dunes I came across a church 1/2 buried in the sand. Inside were some writings, Telling the History of the church, I will place this above this note. I went back to a caravan site that is close by in 1983. I took my family to see the Church, but it was buried under the sand again, with a monument on top.
