St. Olga
890 - 969
St. Olga 879-969 Married in 903 to Prince Igor I or Kieve, Russia, she was a cruel and barbarous woman (she scalded her husband's murderers to death in 945 and murdered hundreds of their followers) until she was baptized at Constantinople in 957. She then requested Emperor Otto I to send missionaries to Kiev. Although St. Adalbert of Magdeburg was sent and the queen exerted great efforts the mission proved a failure as did her attempts to convert her son, Svyatoslav. Christianity was introduced however by her grandson St. Vladimir.. Feastday July 11.

yea clement .. every sinner has a future and every Saint a past
Clement, that is an absolutely ridiculous comment. She did these things PRE-conversion, and not as an act of religion, but revenge.
It is good to read about a saint who was also a grand pioneer in the art of torturing whole ethnic enclaves to the death. A saint's story I will think about during times of devotional crisis.
OLHA,wife of Ihor, Swiatoslavychwas not cruel or barbarian woman. After the Pechenihs killed her husband ,she took revange. She was wise and educated Princess of Kyiv -RUSS not Russia. at that time thse tribe of UHRO-FINISH (mongol)origin. Their capital was Moskva hence they were MOscovites> The word RUSSIA came only with the unification of the tribes of Novgorod and Suszdal andother city states by IVAN the IV(The Terrible. OLHA travelled to Constantynopol Byzantium, where the Emperor of Constantinople ofthe Bysantian Empire asked for her hand in marriage. She first wanted to be baptized. She took the Emperor as her God-father.When the Emperor asked again ,she repied to him "it is not fitting that I should marry my own Godfather. For the rest of her Mature life she was a very pious woman. She Build several churches ( there weve some christian chapels as early as the 5th century AD in Kiyvan Russ)and many schools . She is recognized as a Saint by the Vatican .It is so hurtful to keep seeing how so many keep confusing Russia with RUSS and Ukrain. I am A Ukrainian Catholic of Byszantin RITE. Perhaps if we pray to St.Odillia we might see the the difference .Since 1596 The Ocidental Church cannot distinguish us from Orthodox Russia. Olha by the way was a Catholic Saint not Russian. It was before the schysm of 1056.
