St. Hubert

St. Hubert

St. Hubert

Feastday: November 3
Patron of hunters, mathematicians, opticians and metalworkers
Died: 727

Bishop of Maastricht, Netherlands, and disciple of St. Lambert. Hubert was a married courtier serving Pepin of Heristal, France. He reportedly had a vision of a crucifix between the horns of a stag while hunting. Widowed, he is believed to have entered Stavelot Monastery, Belgium, and was ordained by St. Lambert at Maastricht. He succeeded St. Lambert about 705 as bishop. Hubert erected a shrine for St. Lambert’s relics at Liege, France. He was noted for his miracles and for converting hundreds. Hubert died at Tervueren, near Brussels, Belgium, on May 30. He is a patron saint of hunters.

My husband's name was Hubert and has been deceased for 22 years. My grandson is being confirmed and he is taking his name in confirmation. I am very proud of him; I am searching for medals, statues, a book about him and a manuscript (in color) with the stag. I I have called all the catholic book stores in our area to secure these (with no luck) and finally today, I called the St. Anthony Messenger office in Ohio for help. I think I might be able to get a statue from their referral. I have listed my email address and if it can be posted to those listed above, and if they can help me in getting medals or "anything" about St. Hubert, it would be greatly appreciated. All my boys (5) are hunters, including the new confirmand and he is very excited about taking his grandfathers name the day of Confirmation. This is a great site; I hope others will seek help thru it. Thanks to all.

Years back while traveling we stopped at Mio, Michigan and came upon the St Hubert medals. It is always a concern of my wife, Mary Jo that we have our St Hubert medals on us while hunting. My family, the Hoffman's have always been avid hunters and when our son, Martin Bernard came along and became of age of hunting he proudly wore his St Hubert medal as well. Son-in-laws, 3 of them also have their St Hubert medals. That has been something that started way back when she was single in her household. Her father, Bernard and brothers, William, Wendell and Michael also displayed their St Hubert medals and were so very proud of them. Mother-in-law, Blanche, bless her soul also saw to it that they all had their St Hubert medals before they walked out the door to go hunting. We are so very proud of our St Hubert medals and it will pass onto generations and already has.

I was told that i was named after my namesake St. Hubert as based on the 'almanaque' used in the Philippines to get Christian names of children about to be baptized.

I recently visited a Grotto in Mio, Michigan. They have a statue of St.Hubert and being a hunter I found this to be a very nice surprise. Hunting in the woods has allways been a spiritual experiance for me. I shall enjoy it even more now that I have a saint to pray to while enjoying the beauty of the woods. God Bless All Hunters
