Bishop of Lindisfarne, England, who opposed the introduction of Roman liturgical practices in Celtic lands. An Irish monk on lona, Scotland, Finan was a friend of King Oswy of Northumbria, England, and baptized King Penda of Mercia and King Sigebert of the East Saxons. Finan was an evangelist in southern England, working with St. Cedd. He succeeded St. Aidan as bishop at Lindisfame.
