St. Gertrude
Patron of the West Indies
1256 - 1302
St. Gertrude, Virgin (Patroness of the West Indies) Feastday-November 16 St. Gertrude was born at Eisleben in Saxony. At the age of five, she was placed in the care of the Benedictine nuns at Rodalsdorf and later became a nun in the same monastery, of which she was elected Abbess in 1251. The following year she was obliged to take charge of the monastery at Helfta, to which she moved with her nuns.
St. Gertrude had enjoyed a good education. She wrote and composed in Latin, and was versed in Sacred Literature. The life of this saint, though not replete with stirring events and striking actions, was one of great mental activity. It was the mystic life of the cloister, a life hidden with Christ in God. She was characterized by great devotion to the Sacred Humanity of Our Lord in His Passion and in the Blessed Eucharist, and by a tender love for the Blessed Virgin. She died in 1302.

I'm doing my confirmation in a few months and Saint Gertrude is my patron saint. This helped a lot!
it is nice to see that because we want to learn more about our section saint gertrude in grade 6 in nuestra senora de aranzazu parochial school at the philippines san mateorizal
i was looking or this
i want st gertrude 2 be my patron saint.
Other than the "Our Father" or "Lord's Prayer" how many of us know of a prayer as powerful as this prayer of Saint Gertrude? I pray it every morning and every night for our souls in Purgatory.
I thank the lord for bringing st getrude upon the masses and to the true word of Jesus christ, we ask you to intercede for us to our lord JESUS CHRIST that we become his true disciples. pray for any thing that may evil on us to be broken and thrown in the deep heavy fires of distractions, we pray that we remain pure in the eyes of our Lord Almighty. Amen
happy feast day st gertrude the great. thank you for guiding us during our visit to germany to see you. please continue to intercede to the Most Holy Trinity for my mom and i.
I am doing a Novena to the Sacred Heart and came across a line which reads "O glorious St Gertrude and all ye glorious servants of Christ.......". This drove me to research St. Gertrude. I came across four (1) St. Gertrude (2) St Gertrude of Hamage, (3) St. Gertrude the Great and (4) St. Gertrude of Nivellas. I became particularly interested in No. (1) as I am West Indian and realise that she is the Patron Saint. of The West Indies. However it was not stated why and in my opinion sufficient was not said about her.
it was intereting but not what i was looking for.
"Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son,
Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the world today,
for all the holy souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere,
for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home
and within my family. Amen"
-St. Gertrude the Great
(Releases 1000 souls from Purgatory when prayed devoutly)
St. Gertrude, pray for us!
She is a wonderful role model
i choose her to be my saint for my conformation i will be receiving next year. thank you for your information
