St. Begga
615 - 693
Begga was the daughter of Pepin of Landen, mayor of the palace, and St. Itta. She married Ansegilius, son of St. Arnulf of Metz, and their son was Pepin of Herstal, founder of the Carolingian dynasty of rulers in France. On the death of her husband in the year 691, she built a church and convent at Andenne on the Meuse River and died there. Her feast day is December 17th.

I also go back to Saint Begga in my geneology. I would love to learn more about her, get her medal and prayer card. My birthday is her feast day, Dec. 17th and alot of my relatives have Brabant surnames meaning they came from Brabant as she was, I am told from there. I am still looking for more info. about her.
I am also a descendant of Saint Begga! Thank you to all my distant cousins for any added information. I was surprised to find Catholics on my Father's side. Have to love family secrets and lost (important) information. If I would have known, I would have chosen Begga for my confirmation name! I am honored to be related to such a dedicated woman.
St. Begga is my 40th Great Grandmother.
She may be my 45th great grandmother as well, I'm just finding out! What a fascinating family history! Saints and emperors and kings!
Family reunion time!! St. Begga is one of my great great great........grandmothers too!
Saint Begga is my 46th Paternal Great Grandmother and Saint Itta is my 47th. Nobody who knows me will ever believe that 2 of my ancestors are saints.
St. Begga is my 45th great grandmother too. I just found out today. Seeing as she lived so long ago, she must be related to a lot of people!
I too am descended from St Begga - interestingly if you are also you may wish to do a little more research as apart from the great grandmother connection there appears to be at least two other saints from the same line - they would be our great uncles and aunts. I am disappointed this site does not explain what she is celebrated for; nothing, just her feast day.
Trite as it sounds, me too. She is one of my g-g-g-g-g-mothers. Does anyone else feel the huge responsibility of being her descendant? I need some time to absorb this.
I to have just found out I'm decended from St Begga - bit of a shock really expecially given the rest of the lineage to find out that Mark Anthony was your g g g ....grandfather is quite amazing. I think I'm going to adopt her as my own personal patron saint afterall what better than a foremother to lend a ear :-)
I am doing the family tree for my Son and have jsut found out this is his direct gandmother 38 th... Want to learn more about her does anyone have any ideas on where to go from here?... thanks in advance for any assistance
If you keep following her line back it will take you back to the Caesars of the Roman Empire. Very interesting
I was so surprised to learn that she is my 44th. Great Grandmother. I love Ancestry.com
It is so hard when you first start researching, but at some point after several years of work, you tap into all the people who have been researching people in your family. I had no idea that our family was related to Emperor Charlemagne. Saints, and Sinners Kings, Queens, Sirs and Knights and maybe some thieves. :)
Ya, by marriage I'm related to St Begga & St Arnold
As a little Catholic girl, my mother would read us stories from the Miraculous Medal series. It had stories of saints. St Begga was my favorite story. I remember slightly that she was called the "Lily of God" or so I thought. Hope this helps.
I too have found her in my family tree. Shame there is not more info here about her. But well......................... this was more than a week rrr 2 ago.
I just discovered I too am a decendnt of St. Begga. I would love to learn more about her and her legacy.
I am a decendant of St. Begga and am trying to find out more about her. This was a somewhat informative, but I am hoping I can find out more.
Thanks
