Penitent, also called Theobald Roggeris. Born at Vico, Italy, to a wealthy family, he departed his home to become a cobbler's apprentice at Alba, in the Piedmont. After the death of his master, he went on a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela and, upon his return, lived as an austere and humble porter, giving away most of his wages to the poor. He is considered a patron of shoemakers and porters.
