Died: 1588

Martyr of Wales. A native of Raglan, Gwent, Wales, he was a Catholic who received ordination at Reims, France, in 1587. He returned to England to work for the Catholic mission. Captured, he was hanged at Shoreditch and beatified in 1929.

A very good afternoon to you.

I wonder if there is a transposition error in the name of the Bl William Guntei.

My family have been researching our genealogy and my wife's family list a William Gunter as priest born in Raglan and being executed in August 1588. The Gunters were a prominent family around Raglan and Abergavenny, being descended from the Gauntiers who, in turn, were based in Monmouth and count among their number former Archbishops of Reims and Tours.
