St. Katharine Drexel
Died: 1955
Beatified By: Pope John Paul II
Canonized By: Pope John Paul II
Saint Katharine Drexel, Religious (Feast Day-March 3) Born in 1858, into a prominent Philadelphia family, Katharine became imbued with love for God and neighbor. She took an avid interest in the material and spiritual well-being of black and native Americans. She began by donating money but soon concluded that more was needed - the lacking ingredient was people. Katharine founded the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament for Black and Native American peoples, whose members would work for the betterment of those they were called to serve. From the age of 33 until her death in 1955, she dedicated her life and a fortune of 20 million dollars to this work. In 1894, Mother Drexel took part in opening the first mission school for Indians, in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Other schools quickly followed - for Native Americans west of the Mississippi River, and for the blacks in the southern part of the United States. In 1915 she also founded Xavier University in New Orleans. At her death there were more than 500 Sisters teaching in 63 schools throughout the country. Katharine was beatified by Pope John Paul II on November 20, 1988.
Because of her lifelong dedication to her faith and her selfless service to the oppressed, Pope John Paul II canonized her on October 1, 2000 to become only the second recognized American-born saint.

Dear Saint Katherine Drexel, Please pray for me. Amen.
She was TRULY given the GRACE and was embodied by the Holy Spirit that guided her love for the less fortunate, Indian and black Americans. She was given the wisdom to have known WHY we exist here on Earth and what our responsibilities are when we are blessed to know God and understand our duty to love him with all our heart. God Bless her in Heaven, for she is an example of divine behavior and not of Pluralistic Ignorance, that has dominated the minds of our Country today.
We as Catholics must carry our torch to those and light the faces of those covering their faces with the hands of the evil one. We have a responsibility to respond to Mary and God's call to action for our salvation and all of mankind. Thank you.
Mother Katherine Drexel, Please pray for us, who struggle through this work a day world.

3rd march 2013:st katharine drexel sbs pray for us!
Saint Katherine was truly a wonderful woman indeed. Because of her tireless work for Native American children to attain a standard and religious education that to this day I am forever grateful for creating St. Michael's Elementary School in St. Michaels, AZ. My sister, cousins, nieces, and nephews all have or are partaking into the education there.
I am at a crossroad and hope that I may one day educate the little ones on my reservation soon. Pray for us, Saint Katherine.
My daughters dog lost his hearing. We both prayed to St. Katherine and Vito can now hear. Thank you St. Katherine.
The Diocese of St. Cloud MN has a school named after St. Katherine Drexel. Please add to your list.

This Saint's picture was on a calendar and I was curious as to who she was. I began reading from the calendar but I wanted to know more about her contributions.
Thanks for your wonderful input, I was able to get a better understanding of this beautiful person who was chosen by the Lord to serve His oppressed people.
God bless you.
Dear St. Katherine Drexel, please pray for me to be generous and open hearted towards the needs of others, as you were.
St. Katherine Drexel's story is very inspiring! Imagine giving up her big fortune in order to follow what Jesus advised the young rich man ( in the Bible) 'to give up his riches and follow Him!' How many of us can give up our worldly possessions in order to follow Christ. I wish someday I can follow the footsteps of St. Katherine Drexel and ultimately follow the footsteps of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
St. Katherine Drexel. what a far-sighted, generous-hearted woman you are, to have cared for people. You have demonstrated true love for humanity irrespective of racial origins. You used much of your personal fortunes to the benefit of the poor, African American people. Be our inspiration. On your feast day, in the presence of the Blessed Trinity, pray for us. Give us graces to be like you. To be inspired. To be motivated by love of God. Amen/
Thank you! I am making my communion and this is the saint I picked to learn about. She is really special and by coincidence I was also baptized in a parish named for her.
