St. Cloud

St. Cloud

Feastday: September 7
Patron of against carbuncles; nail makers; Diocese of Saint Cloud, Minnesota
522 - 560

On the death of Clovis, King of the Franks, in the year 511 his kingdom was divided between his four sons, of whom the second was Clodomir. Thirteen years later he was killed fighting against his cousin, Gondomar, leaving three sons to share his dominions. The youngest of these sons of Clodomir was St. Clodoald, a name more familiar to English people under its French form of Cloud from the town of Saint-Cloud near Versailles. When Cloud was eight years old, his uncle Childebert plotted with his brother, to get rid of the boys and divide their kingdom. The eldest boy, Theodoald was stabbed to death. The second, Gunther fled in terror, but was caught and also killed. Cloud escaped and was taken for safety into Provence or elsewhere.

Childebert and his brother Clotaire shared the fruits of their crime, and Cloud made no attempt to recover his kingdom when he came of age. He put himself under the discipline of St. Severinus, a recluse who lived near Paris, and he afterwards went to Nogent on the Seine and had his heritage where is now Saint-Cloud. St. Cloud was indefatigable in instructing the people of the neighboring country, and ended his days at Nogent about the year 560 when he was some thirty-six years old. St. Cloud's feast day is September 7th.

St. Cloud, you lived through so much treachery and plots to kill you. Miraculously, you escaped such devious attempts. More amazingly, you took no revenge. Today, you are remembered for the humble life of service to the poor, needy and the illiterate, which you preferred. Help us to emulate you, and offer faithful service to Christ each and every single day of our lives. Pray for all children who are born with disabilities. Amen.

I bought a small box of medals at an auction and in that box was a medal of Saint Cloud on one side, and, Saint Theresa on the other. On the side of Saint Cloud the medal said -Saint Cloud Patron Saint Of The Poor- In these tough economic times I have prayed to this Saint and asked for help and everytime I have done this I have always been able to either find a way out ,or, get a slight windfall. It usually happens within 24 hours. It has never failed me

This sounds like the making of a good saint story (having escaped death from an evil uncle). But what did the saint do while alive? I am sure this saint did good things. I would like to know.

this is a fascinating story. i would like to know how saint cloud became a saint, what deeds or miracles qualified him for sainthood. i think there is a typo in your write-up. you say "he had his heritage" on the seine but i think you mean his hermitage, with an m. if you don't mean hermitage, then i don't understand what you are saying. even so, i am most grateful for the daily inspiration you send by email.

This saint is such an inspiration to us all. He lived in brutal, corrupt times and overcame the treachery he was faced with from his early youth. He spent his life teaching and helping others at a time when literacy was rare and superstition rampant. He could so easliy have given up and become just another victim, but he stood fast. A great man!

Is it possible to include a Prayer-of-the-Day tailored specifically to that particular saint? The short bios are great.

Today I have just seen on EWTN the Mass of St Cloud, but his feast day is September 7th and today is only the 6th, and I'm earlier thaan the USA because I live in England. Why has his feast day been brought back? . On a,.lighter note is there any truth in the rumour that St Cloud is the patron Saint of rain?

Saint Cloud priez pour nous tous; pray for the storm victims who have lost their homes; pray for the mind storm victims who have lost their bones; pray for politicians who scramble and scrabble like rats over piles of broken glass lies; pray for the whimpering tortured, crying out for God's mercy while our leaders sulk in their trances of manifold corruptions; pray for the freedoms that Hegel saw, that America's Founding Fathers spoke of, that Yahweh and Jesus promised and our current Earth lot suborns & traitorly betrays; Saint Cloud, like a nuage of goodness let your beingness envelop us, infuse us, enlighten our lives until & as we walk with you in the eternal bridal city light of Lamb, Amen & please special nuptual blessings to my nephew & niece to be who shall wed in France, merci
