Today's Lenten Meditation from Cardinal Van Thuan
" title="Meditation taken from "The Road of Hope," by Cardinal Francis Xavier Nguyen Van Thuan (Pauline Books & Media, 2000). Archbishop Van Thuan spent 13 years in a Viet Cong prison, nine of these in solitary confinement. He wrote more than 1,000 meditations on scraps of paper that were smuggled out to his people during his imprisonment. "The Road of Hope" is the collection of these messages. The archbishop was released in 1988 but remained under "house arrest" for three more years. Expelled from Vietnam, he served in the Vatican and was named a cardinal by Pope John Paul II in 2001. He died in 2002." class="img-responsive lazyload img-thumbnail pull-left spacer-right" style="max-width:200px">
