With the wedding at Cana, narrated by the Gospel this Sunday, Jesus reveals himself as the Messianic bridegroom, come to establish a new Covenant with His people -- and the Church is devoted to this task. Pope Benedict XVI addressed the issue on Sunday in remarks to the faithful gathered for the traditional Angelus prayer. The Church, however, the Pope added, is made up of human beings, and therefore, always in need of purification. And one of the faults is related to historical divisions among Christians -- for the repair of which all Christians have the duty to work and pray.
