Dominican University Presents Michael Himes in Mazzuchelli Lecture

River Forest, IL (OCTOBER 16, 2008) - Dominican University's Siena Center will present Father Michael Himes, an award-winning author and popular speaker, in the annual Mazzuchelli Lecture on Thursday, November 6. The lecture, titled "The Heart of the Catholic Story," will take place at 5:00 p.m. in the Eloise Martin Recital Hall, 7900 W. Division Street, River Forest.

Himes will explore the sacramental tradition within Catholicism. He will discuss how the sacramental imagination can move us toward building a more sustainable future for ourselves and our children.

Himes is a professor of theology at Boston College and a priest of the diocese of Brooklyn, New York. A prolific writer and contributor to scholarly and popular journals, he received the Catholic Press Association Book Award in Theology for Fullness of Faith: The Public Significance of Theology (1993) and for Ongoing Incarnation: Johann Adam Mohler and the Beginnings of Modern Ecclesiology (1997). His most recent book is The Mystery of Faith: An Introduction to Catholicism (2004). Himes has been recognized with numerous honorary doctorates and awards, including "most influential teacher" at Notre Dame, the Sophia Award for Theological Excellence in Service to Ministry from Washington Theological Union, and the Phi Beta Kappa Award for Outstanding Teaching at Boston College.

Himes holds a doctorate from the University of Chicago, a master of divinity degree from the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception and a bachelor's degree from Cathedral College.
