NORTH CANTON, OH (April 17, 2014) - Walsh University nursing student Jule Sarachman was recently honored as a 2014 Outstanding Student Nurse at the Akron General Medical Center, Innovations in Cardiovascular Nursing, 21st Annual Denise Carrabine, RN, Memorial Lecture. A Walsh senior in the Byers School of Nursing, Sarachman was one of only two students honored for excellence in clinical skills and compassion for patients and their families.

In her nomination of Jule Sarachman, Akron General, Medical Surgical Unit Director of Nursing/Patient Services Bonnie Gardner described the Walsh University student as an enthusiastic nurse tech with a great work ethic. “When she comes on the unit, you can see how excited she is to take care of patients and do her job. She is a great team player. Jule is kind and caring to our patients. The nurses on the unit describe her as ‘someone who anticipates our needs.’ She is going to make a great RN.”

Dr. Tim Carrabine established the annual award for outstanding student nurses in honor of his late wife Denise Carrabine’s love of learning. Denise was a nurse who worked at Akron General in the Coronary Care Unit. Each year, the Denise Carrabine Innovations in Cardiovascular Nursing Memorial Lecture Committee honors an Outstanding Mentor and an Outstanding Student during the luncheon.

"The faculty and administrators of the Byers School of Nursing are extremely proud of Jule,” said Dean Linda Linc, PhD, Byers School of Nursing. “She demonstrates a true dedication to the nursing profession and provides compassionate care to her patients. She embodies all of the qualities and characteristics one would hope to find in a professional nurse."
