El Chapo's drug cartel 'maintains the most significant presence in the United States.'

Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán leads the Sinaloa drug cartel, which the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) reports has the most influence of all gangs in the United States.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - The DEA released an unclassified report that indicates the Mexican drug cartel's influence across America.

The cartel has such momentum trafficking heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine, and marijuana from Mexico to the United States, that despite El Chapo's incarceration in a Mexican prison, the cartel continued all operations.

The DEA report shows the Sinaloa cartel "maintains the most significant presence in the United States," adding, "Mexican TCOs pose the greatest criminal drug threat to the United States; no other group is currently positioned to challenge them."

The dark yellow sections of the map indicate the areas El Chapo's drug cartel is most influential. Note that the pale yellow covers most of central and the western areas of the United States -areas in which Sinaloa has less  influence but still more than other cartels.

El Chapo's drug cartel controls "drug trafficking across the southwest border and are moving to expand their share, particularly in the heroin and methamphetamine markets," the DEA reported.

While imprisoned in a Mexican maximum security prison, El Chapo escaped through a 20x20 inch grill in the shower floor, shimmied down a 32-foot shaft and escaped through a complex tunnel system through land purchased by suspects who were later arrested.

Six people total were arrested in October and have been accused of helping El Chapo escape. This is his second escape from prison and the drug lord's location remains uncertain.
