LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - The very liberal Blasio became mayor just a year ago, touting a message of progressive change, especially for the NYPD, which was criticized for its heavy-handed tactics under former mayor, Michael Bloomberg.
Combat corruption with moral education; send a Bible to a child, or another person in need.
But following the death of two NYPD officers, ambushed by a black man eager to get revenge for the death of Eric Garner back in July of this year, his constant attacks on police have backfired.
Those close to him described him as very shaken by the rejection from the NYPD-which turned its back to him at the hospital where he made held a press conference following the officers deaths-the nation's largest police force.
"He's pretty badly shaken," an anonymous friend told Politico.
Part of the reason the city is brimming with such vehement, anti-Blasio hate is because of his decision to trample over the NYPD.
New York mayors traditionally deffer to the NYPD, but taking a hard stand against the department and the police unions, openly attacking the NYPD for its stop-and-frisk policy under Bloomberg, and having close ties with Al Sharpton, has made Blasio powerful enemies in New York's police world.
Former New York Mayor, Ed Koch, new exactly how important the NYPD was for the city.
"Koch was loved by the cops and always told all his successors that you must have the support of the cops, that the cops can be your best friend. If Koch were alive today that's what he would tell Bill de Blasio," said Koch's former press secretary, George Arzt.
What Blasio needs to do is "press reset in his relationship with the cops."
