Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.Help Now >

King Abdullah of Jordan is a large critic of the actions of the Islamic State and other terrorist groups, and while in the United States to meet with President Obama, he spoke to "CBS This Morning" and called the battle against terrorism "our third world war."

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - During the interview Abdullah said that the Islamic State is a Muslim problem, and Muslims around the world need to take ownership for it, and unite to stop it.
Act now, please help save fellow Christians from genocide!
"We need to stand up and say what is right and what is wrong. This is no reflection of our religion. This is evil and all of us have got to make that decision," he said.
"We have to stand up and say this is the line that is drawn in the sand and those that believe in right should stand on this side and those that don't have to make a decision should stand on the other. It's clearly a fight between good and evil. I think it's a generational fight. As I said to President Putin, I think this is our third world war by other means."
The Islamic State has executed thousands of Iraqi and Syrian civilians, especially Christians and other minority groups. Several U.S. and British aid workers have been execuated by the group as well.
Abdullah does not think the current campaign of airstrikes against the Islamic State, conducted by the U.S. and allies in the Middle East and around the world, is enough.
"We have to have, sooner I hope rather than later, a strategic holistic approach to being able to deal with all these organizations that actually are the same-different names, but the same beliefs."
Abdullah also revealed part of the reason he was in the U.S. to meet with the president. He hopes to establish a larger precedent about policy in the Middle East, to prevent radical Islamist groups from rising up or becoming powerful.
"This is an issue that we really have to combine our strategies," he said. "I know we have t concentrate on Syria and Iraq, but we really have to have a pan-regional approach to this issue."
He admitted that there is only so much the U.S. or outside powers can do in the region. Middle Eastern governments and Muslim leaders will also have to take charge.
"The short term part of it is going to be the military, the medium term is the security aspect of it. But the long term is going to be the ideological one.
"There's a lot of leaders through the Arab and Muslim world that have had enough and that want to come out in a voice and say, 'Enough is enough," said Abdullah.
