LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - Someone has shared the video of a ritual sacrifice online. The bizarre video was filmed at the CERN particle accelerator campus in Switzerland. In the video, a group of individuals dressed in black, hooded robes gathers in the dark before a statue of Shiva, the Hindu god of destruction.
The group gathers in a circle, and a woman in a white robe lies on the ground. One of the group holds up what appears to be a metal object, possibly a knife. This person then plunges the object into the woman, and the camera cuts away with an expletive.
The video prompted an immediate investigation amid rumors of a satanic ceremony on the scientific campus.
The investigation revealed the video is a hoax, which is a relief. Nobody was harmed, and officials on the CERN campus know who was involved in the staged ceremony.
They have not revealed who the individuals are. No crime appears to have been committed.
However, the individuals involved are still in a lot of trouble from directors at CERN. Officials are upset because the video may confuse people about what goes on at CERN, which is a purely scientific mission.
Each year thousands of scientists visit CERN to study and conduct research. Naturally, some perform pranks or other antics to help pass the time. In this case, the prank is in exceedingly poor taste.
It is very likely those involved in the prank could have their security credentials revoked and be sent home.
CERN is the French acronym for the Conseil Européen pour la Recherche Nucléaire. The pan-European agency is studying what happens when atoms are smashed together, which reveals a host of subatomic particles. By studying how those subatomic particles behave after being smashed, they can answer questions about quantum physics raised by various hypotheses.
The site hosts several particle accelerators including the famous Large Hadron Collider, which is the world's largest at nearly 17 miles in circumference.
The research conducted at the site is critical to understanding the physical means behind the creation of the universe. It is also the birthplace of the World Wide Web, initially created to help scientists to share research information around the world.
The mission boasts many scientific discoveries.
