LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - With "Allahu Akbar," meaning "God is great," as their battle cry, the two gunmen left a scene of carnage after firing at police officers on scene, according to officers and witnesses.

In the wake of the attack, France remains at high levels of security. Security is reinforced at houses of worship, stores, media offices and transportation, including the Eifle Tower.

Charlie Hebdo repeatedly distributed pieces throughout the magazine displaying the Prophet Mohammad and Islamic law in a controversial light.

The magazine's editor, Stephane Charbonnier was among those killed, along four other cartoonists. Charbonnier was reportedly involved in a feud with ISIS prior to the attack.

"We need to find the actors of this terrorist act," Hollande said to CNN Paris. "They must be arrested and brought before judges and condemned as quickly as possible. France is shocked today."

Give now to help rescue those imperiled by the Islamic State!

"No barbarous act will ever extinguish freedom of the press," Hollande exclaimed on his Twitter. "We are a united country."
