LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - The shootings occurred just before 10 a.m. ET on October 22, and a Canadian soldiers standing guard at Canada's Parliament war memorial was shot. Following that incident there were dozens of gunshots between another gunman and security forces in Canada's iconic Parliament building which left the shooter dead, Parliament and much of Ottawa is now on lockdown.

Act now, please help save fellow Christians from genocide!

Details are scarce as authorities attempt to piece together what is going on, but police have said there could be multiple shooting incidents in the capital.

Another shooting took place near Rideau Center, but no one was injured.

Ottawa journalist Josh Wingrove told CNN that gunfire erupted in the main Canadian Parliament building, starting in the foyer, and a second round of shooting began just a minute later in a hallway near the entrance.

Shocking video shows armed police and security officers advancing up a hallway within the Parliament building while dozens of shots ring out.

"We don't know if it's someone from the military who was targeted or not," said Ottawa police Constable Marc Soucy.

He stated that gunfire was reported at 9:52 a.m. ET.

The violence comes just two days after two Canadian soldiers were hit by a radicalized Canadian Muslim-Martin Rouleau Couture, one soldier died in the incident, but Canadian authorities have no knowledge that the two incidents were connected.

Couture converted to Islam in 2013 and was arrested by Royal Canadian Mounted Police trying to get to Turkey to fight with the Islamic State in Syria.

"When he was arrested, he was about to go to Turkey," said Martine Fontaine, a spokesmen with the Mounties. "We stopped him as he was about to leave Canada for terrorist actions. He was questioned when he was arrested. We have not been able to determine any real threat at this time."

President Barack Obama has been briefed about the incident, and FBI forces have reportedly deployed agents to Ottawa. New details are emerging.
