We ask you, urgently: don’t scroll past this

Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - The 186 destroyed churches were part of the Maiduguri Diocese, in 14 parishes in the states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa.

Combat corruption with moral education; send a Bible to a child, or another person in need.

Father Gideo Obasogie, the director of social communications in the diocese, said that: "As a Church, we are really going through a severe moment of persecution. Our ecclesiastical circumscription is facing a sharp disintegration."

The diocese claims that the violence is caused by Boko Haram, now in its fifth year of violence in Nigeria. The group has been conducting bombings, attacks on churches, assassinations and abductions in an attempt to supplant the Nigerian government and form an Islamic state.

The terrorist group's recent activities have also displaced local government officials, and thrown the region into chaos. The militants have taken over several government buildings, forcing thousands of Catholics to flee.

"Our children have not yet been fed well or clothed; so resumption to school is practically out of our calculation," Obasogie said.

"In our opinion, if thousands of Nigerian children can't go to school . then their future is at stake, quite bleak. The health condition of our people is truly troubling in their displaced camps."
