Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.

Binge-viewing sweeps across America: TV consumes the lives of 50 percent of all adult Americans

50 percent of all American adults admit to binge-viewing

Watching a whole season of a television series in a day sounds ridiculous. However, binge-viewing has become more popular than the traditional way of watching TV, seeing a single episode of a series once a week.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - With newer TV outlets like, Netflix and Hulu, people are able to sit and watch multiple episodes of a TV show back-to-back.

According to a new study from PricewaterhouseCoopers, 50 percent of adults now identify as binge-viewers. For viewers under 35, that percentage was even higher.

Help bring God's word where it's needed most

More than half of those involved in the study stated they participated in binge-viewing more frequently in 2014 than they did in 2013 and more than half admitted to doing so daily or at least weekly.

The pressure to keep up with a popular TV series is stronger than it's ever been. With the explosion of quality dramas, Netflix and other streaming sites are gaining more viewership.

"They are binge-viewing just to keep up," expressed Matt Lieberman, director of PwC's entertainment, media and communications practice, in an article with The Huffington Post. "We heard stories of consumers filling up their DVRs with their favorite series and also starting/stopping online subscription services just to get to their favorite content."

61 percent of the survey participants agreed, "there are too many shows to watch, and not enough time to watch them."

The popularity of watching multiple episodes of a TV show in one sitting is expected to continue rising; the future for cable networks doesn't look so promising.

Only 42 percent of those surveyed expect that they'll have cable TV service in 10 years.

Being able to control when and how you watch a TV show has become one of the most important factors to viewers today.
