Rihanna kicked out of famed Abu Dhabi mosque in United Arab Emirates

Singer Rihanna, known for her hit song "Diamonds" is being accused of religious disrespect. While dressed in a head-to-toe in a form-fitting, black outfit and wearing a traditional Muslim head covering called a hijab, the singer is seen wearing fire-engine red lipstick while posing against the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. Officials asked her to leave the site immediately.

'Rihanna pics at Sheikh Zayed mosque are disrespectful to the place of worship,' one irate tweeter flagged by Al Arabiya said.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - The pictures, now posted widely on the Internet, didn't mesh with "sanctity" of religious site.

The overseers of Abu Dhabi's Grand Mosque say they asked Rihanna to leave the compound after posing for the photos. Rihanna was in the city for a concert this past weekend. She hasn't publicly responded to the actions by staff at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.

In a memo on the spirit of Islamic law, photos of the singer in several provocative poses were definitely taboo for a society that stresses covering up women's sexuality.

"She left without entering the mosque, after being asked to do so, due to the fact that she had taken some pictures that do not conform with the conditions and regulations put in place by the Center's management to regulate visits in a way that takes the status and sanctity of the mosque into consideration," a representative for the mosque told local media outlets in a statement.

"Rihanna pics at Sheikh Zayed mosque are disrespectful to the place of worship," one irate tweeter flagged by Al Arabiya said.

Adding insult to injury is the fact that the singer apparently "crashed" the site. The mosque spokesperson added that Rihanna came for a private tour to the mosque at a gate that is not meant for visitors - without identifying herself or coordinating the visit in advance.

The mammoth Sheikh Zayed Mosque is the largest religious center in the United Arab Emirates. Named after the late ruler of the country, it's become one of the highest-profile mosques in the region since it opened in 2007.
