Benedictine bishop and devotee of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Altfrid was the headmaster of the school at Corvey Abbey in Saxony. In 851 he was appointed the bishop of Ilildesheim, Germany. The entire Frankish empire revered him for his sanctity and for his devotion to Mary.
