Former atheist recount's her transcendent journey to Catholicism

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (October 1, 2014) - Holly Ordway was an atheist academic who was convinced that faith was superstitious nonsense. As a well-educated English professor, she saw no need for just-so stories about God, and was stridently hostile toward Christianity. Secure in her fortress of atheism, Ordway was she safe from any "assault" by irrational faith -- or so she thought.

Ordway recounts how she finally "laid down her arms" in surrender to Christ -- moving from unbelief, to Evangelicalism and finally home to the Catholic Church -- in her book NOT GOD'S TYPE: An Atheist Academic Lays Down Her Arms.

She provides her personal story of becoming convinced of the truth of Christianity on rational grounds but also the account of God's grace acting in and through her vivid imagination. NOT GOD'S TYPE is the story of an unfolding, developing relationship with God -- told with directness and honesty -- and of a painful surrender at the foot of the cross. It's the account of a lifelong, transformative love of reading and the story of how a competitive fencer put down her sabre to pick up the sword of the Spirit.

Ordway presents a glimpse into the atheist mindset and the experience of conversion first-hand, with all its difficulties and trepidations. Her passionate commitment to truth and beauty, especially through the great literature she read from prominent authors such as G.K. Chesterton, J.R.R. Tolkien, Dante Alighieri and C.S. Lewis, among others, won out, and Ordway gave in to the One in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and truth.
