RENEW International Staff to Attend International Meeting Pastoral Project of "Evangelii Gaudium" a

PLAINFIELD, NJ (September 15, 2014) - Sr. Theresa Rickard, OP, will represent RENEW International in her capacity as president and executive director at the international conference entitled, "The Pastoral Project of Evangelii Gaudium." The event will take place September 18-20, 2014, at the Paul VI Audience Hall in Vatican City. She will be accompanied by Deirdre Trabert Malacrea, RENEW's director of communications.

This event is organized by the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of the New Evangelization and will draw bishops, clergy, religious, and lay leaders from around the world to delve into fundamental aspects of "Evangelii Gaudium--The Joy of the Gospel," the Holy Father's first apostolic exhortation.

The focus of this international meeting is share current and potential pastoral approaches to fostering the New Evangelization. The roster of speakers will cover such topics as listening to the poor, pastoral outreach in cities and everyday situations, family life, social media in the New Evangelization. On Friday, September 19, His Holiness Pope Francis will address the assembly.

RENEW International has almost four decades of experience offering innovative pastoral processes to dioceses and parishes to support their goals of faith formation, evangelization, and spiritual renewal. RENEW's approach combines the powerful model of small Christian community faith sharing with training and support for ministry leaders in the parish.

This November, RENEW International will launch its newest process, "Be My Witness: Formation for the New Evangelization," available in Spanish as "Sean mis testigos." This program enables participants to recognize and embrace Christ's call to be witnesses in their daily lives. They are assisted in making this connection by viewing and reflecting on a series of short witness videos of everyday Catholics talking about their own turning points of faith. This approach gets them thinking about being witnesses, while the small group faith-sharing helps them practice talking about faith with others. Since becoming its president and executive director, Sr. Terry has led RENEW International's expansion into almost seventy dioceses as well as five developing countries. Under her watch, RENEW has launched "Why Catholic? Journey Through the Catechism" and "ARISE Together in Christ," available in multiple languages, directly involving almost a half-million participants.

In addition to her leadership role at RENEW International, Sr. Terry is a Dominican Sister of Blauvelt, New York. She holds the degree of Doctor of Ministry in Preaching from Aquinas Institute of Theology in St. Louis, Missouri as well master's degrees in Divinity and Religious Education.
