We ask you, urgently: don’t scroll past this

Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.

Health Care: Interpreting Congressman Bart Stupak

Image of Stupak 'gets it' because he's not going to hide behind the skirts of Catholic groups who compromise the Church's teaching on life issues, and who do so without any authority. By dismissing the influence of the CHA, Stupak not only rejects the cover of a lobbying organization with vested interests, but he also defers to the authority of the bishops and their insistence that the health-care bill be stripped of abortion funding.

In the coming weeks, Bart Stupak will be portrayed as everything from a saint to a demon.Among social conservatives, Stupak is a 'Pro-Life ... continue reading

But as soon as the news broke that they had this [compromise], and they got the 60 votes, folks were asking me, and I’m not going to run from the issue I’m going to stand up and say, ‘Look, here’s my objections.' Here – it’s not just my objections – but there’s a number of my [colleagues] who feel strongly about this issue, and these are the parts that have to be fixed.'

Senate Health Care Reform Bill is an Abortion Bill

Image of If even one state decides to provide insurance coverage for abortions, all taxpayers, regardless of where they live, will see their tax dollars used to fund elective abortions in that state. In other words, as Senator Brownback makes clear, 'even taxpayers in states that opt out of providing abortion coverage cannot opt out of paying for elective abortion.' This provision effectively kills the Hyde Amendment.

If Reid's bill becomes law, a federally funded and managed health care plan will cover elective abortions for the first time. FRONT ROYAL, ... continue reading

Opinion: ‘Life was the Light of the Human Race’. Politics, Progress and Prudence

Image of In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came to be through him, and without him nothing came to be. What came to be through him was life, and this life was the light of the human race; the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. (John 1: 1 – 6)

Participation in politics also requires prudence in rhetoric, our language of discourse. CHESAPEAKE, Va. (Catholic Online) – This is the ... continue reading
