MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - Five other cities in Iraq were included in the top ten list, while most of the cities observed were from countries in the Middle East. Although no city from the United States or Europe ranked on the top, it doesn't mean that they are far from being targets of violent attacks.
Baghdad was followed by the Iraqi cities Mosul, Al Ramadi, Ba'qubah, Kirkuk and Al Hillah, which were followed by Peshawar in Pakistan, Libyan city Benghazi, Quetta and Hassu Khel, both Pakistani cities.
According to the Daily Mail, three people, on average, have died daily in Baghdad within a 12-month period. There were also 380 reported separate terrorists attacks that left 3,654 people injured.
The capital of Iraq is a constant target of terrorism by the Islamic extremists, making it the most dangerous place on Earth considering terrorist attacks.
The research team extended the list to 54 cities with "extreme risk," which did not include any place from U.S. and Europe. However, a spokesperson said that it doesn't actually mean that no terrorism may happen to these excluded cities.
Although Belfast and Paris ranked within the "high risk" category, 91st and 97th respectively, it doesn't mean that possibilities of attacks in those European cities will increase.
"This risk score does not necessarily reflect an increase in the potential for further such attacks in the French capital, however, high profile Western cities are likely to remain desirable targets for Islamist militants," said the spokesperson for Verisk Maplecroft.
With regards to those ranked in the "low risk" spectrum, they explained that it doesn't equate to no possible attacks, as these places are also open.
In the United States, the most dangerous city at risk for terrorist attacks is Las Vegas, ranking at 184, followed by Kansas City at the 190th.
