MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - Could it be true that BMW is developing a model car that runs a stunning 706 mile per regal gallon (588 miles per US gallon)? Additionally, claims state that this brand new model will be lighter that the i8 hybrid sports car.
However, since the i8 is less focused on performance, it is possible that the new sports car will be faster than the hybrid. The new vehicle does not have a name yet. It appears the new model will only be partially, and not fully, an electric-powered car.
The new model will merge a 2 cylinder gasoline engine, that works as a range-extending generator, with an electric motor. According to a few sources, the brand new sports car will feature a four-seater with a casing that is armored with carbon fibre, much like the i3 and the i8 sports cars.
It is possible that the new vehicle will weigh at most 2,645 lbs. Additionally, it's rumored top speed will be 112mph or 180km/h.
At this point, it is only comparable to the Volkswagen's XL1. The noticeable difference however, is that Volkswagen's is a two-seater and is reported to have a higher pull co-efficient of 0.19 compared to BMW's 0.18, making VW's a little less efficient.
With all the hype building up, it's good to know at an early point that BMW's prototype car will most likely remain a concept or model, given that its production will definitely be very, very costly.
However, many are expecting that some of the features and technological characteristics of this model will be implemented to i-Series models that will be arriving in the near future.
