We ask you, urgently: don't scroll past this
Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.Help Now >

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - The jobs that could be replaced with a robot include telemarketing, secretarial work, food service, office work or even insurance underwriting, but fear not, because new industries will also be opening up, including software development and renewable energy work.
Titled "The Future of Employment", the report has estimated that 47 percent of all jobs within the U.S. are capable of being automated as computers become more prevalent, efficient and cheaper.
One of the authors of the study and a professor of machine learning, Michael Osborne, pointed to recent advances in computers and robotics over the past few years. A report from 2013 by Osborne looked at a new device used at Chili's and Applebee's which sits on the counter and takes a customers order and bill, though servers still serve the food.
The report looked at 700 jobs from the U.S. Department of Labor and fed data into an algorithm which was capable of estimating just how vulnerable one occupation is to being automated based on several criteria, including social interactions, creativity, visual perception and mobility.
However, it is difficult to predict anything beyond a decade or so, and the labor market is no exception. It is certain that some jobs will be automated, but if 47 percent of all jobs are going to be automated is no certainty.
