Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.Help Now >

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - "One day, a drone may be your eyes and ears," said Peter Sondergaard, the research director for Gartner's.
Help provide kids with the quality learning tools they need.
"Drones are just one of many kinds of emerging technologies that extend well beyond the traditional information technology world, these are smart machines," he said.
In five years times, drones will be widely used in industries like agriculture and geographical surveys, and will be used for oil and gas pipeline inspections.
Software programs that can perform a wide variety of tasks are also becoming more common. Machines exist that can not only grade multiple choice, but also grade essays and other text not structured in a specific manner.
Soon, the cognitive abilities of software may extend to financial and data analysis or even medical diagnostics.
"Gartner predicts one in three jobs will be converted to software, robots and smart machines by 2025," said Sondergaard. "New digital businesses require less labor; machines will be make sense of data faster than humans can."
"Businesses and governments must build and design for a world that is digital first," said.
"Human behavior is changing. Digital behaviors permeate if not dominate our lives. As soon as we wake up, here comes the screen for the first digital moment of the day," he said. "Nothing else gets more attention than our screens. We are becoming digital first."
Gartner's predictions are also a warning to businesses, they need to consider carefully how they will adapt to an even more digitally reliant world.
"The door is open for the CIO and the IT organization to be a major player in digital leadership," said Gartner analyst David Aron.
To be effective in their business CIO, Gartner argues, that CIOs must shift their focus off of measuring things like cost, and instead be able to lead their business or government agency towards smarter and more efficient technologies.
