Facebook wants your life...

Facebook is getting bigger, a lot bigger. At last night's developer's conference in San Francisco Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook, announced "Timelines." 

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (Catholic Online) - Facebook is unveiling Timelines, a new feature that allows users to scrapbook their entire life on the social networking giant's pages. Using Timeline, users can upload photos and add information to them as they like. Also, they can change the information later.
 
Naturally, the user organizes their life by day, months, and years. They can even upload home movies, and maps.
 
According to Zuckerberg, they have been working on the project for the past 12 months. 
After announcing Timelines, Zuckerberg added that media and content will now be added to Facebook. Previously, if a user wanted to share something from the web, they had to post a link, which took users off the site for viewing. Now, that content, be it music, or film clips, or images, will be hosted on Facebook and users will not have to leave the site to enjoy them.

While Facebook is enjoying all the buzz regarding these new features, it is also taking a lot of fire from users who have been upset with Facebook's recent changes. The addition of a "top stories" news feed and a "news ticker" type feature have some users upset.
 
Added to those concerns is the fact that, uploading one's entire life story to the web will also raise some privacy issues.

The greatest thing consumers need to understand is that they, the users of the social networking platform, are not the clients. Rather, Facebook's clients are businesses who pay to advertise and to collect information from Facebook on its users and their activities. In the digital marketing age, such information is worth billions.

By revamping their platform to keep  users interested, Facebook hopes to stay one step ahead of its explosive new rival, Google Plus (G+). G+ opened to the public earlier this week and is rapidly gaining users, especially as people disaffected with Facebook seek a viable social networking alternative.

But users must remember, that although the internet is virtual, it is very public and privacy concerns abound. Before uploading your life story, make sure it's the story you want to share, possibly with the world entire.
