LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - In the greatest win of his presidency so far, President Trump is about to meet with North Korean dictator, Kim Jong Un. The North Korean leader requested the meeting in a letter to the President. The letter represents a capitulation of sorts, following months of political and military posturing. Both sides stand to gain from a meeting.
President Trump has already accepted the invitation and has pledged to meet no later than May. No location has been selected, but China has been suggested as a likely possibility. Russia could also host a meeting, as well as any number of European states. China is the most likely choice.
If the meeting is a success, then both the United States and North Korea will walk away with wins. The United States will denuclearize North Korea, which will safeguard American interests in the region. North Korea will be assured of its security, and will not have to fear an American attack. The North will also enjoy the lifting of economic sanctions and other economic and political benefits.
Experts have suggested that the North's ultimate goal is to convince the USA and South Korea to stop joint military exercises. However, they warn the goal of ending such cooperation is to weaken the alliance between the two countries, making it easier for North Korea to invade the South someday, should they choose to do so. This is speculation.
Any agreement with the North will have to involve inspections on the ground, and it is unclear if North Korea will agree to such terms.
The meeting between the pair means there is no risk of conflict erupting in the meantime. The news has been widely praised by leaders around the world. Markets have also reacted positively to the news with stock values rising around the world.
There are losers should peace ensue between the USA and North Korea. A quarter-of-a-million North Koreas are dying in Nazi-style concentration camps in the North. It is certain they will be left out of any agreement between the USA and North Korea. Those people and millions of North Koreans who live in fear of arrest and imprisonment will be left to their grim fates while the rest of the world celebrates the outbreak of peace on the peninsula.
