President-elect has pledged immediate deportation for two million people.

Donald Trump said he plans to deport millions of illegal immigrants as soon as he is president. He made the remarks on 60 Minutes which aired on Sunday.

LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - President-elect Donald Trump is ready to deport between two and three million illegal immigrants with criminal records, following his inauguration in January.

"We're getting them out of our country. They're here illegally." Trump has pledged to secure the border and said he will "make a determination" regarding people who are here illegally but have not broken any subsequent laws other than illegally crossing the border.

The issue of illegal immigration has been a hot topic for decades, and the millions have been shielded from deportation by President Obama. Trump pledged to end sanctuary cities, which are cities that are refusing to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement efforts.

The Church teaches that we must welcome the immigrant, but that assumes the immigrant comes through the front door. We have millions pouring in by other means, never announcing their arrival. A small number of those people are here to do mayhem or refuse to live by our rules. Such people become criminals.

For those who come here and make a better life, working and paying taxes, most Americans want to offer them a path to citizenship. That path includes acknowledgement that they cut the line in front of legal immigrants and broke the law. A fine may be assessed. But there is no question bringing these people into the ranks of lawful citizens is in our best interest.

Illegal aliens live and work under the radar and they are subject to exploitation and abuse. A path to citizenship will also assure them of future security so they may buy homes and raise children without fear.

However, no person has the right to enter the country without permission. Every nation has the right to control its borders. Even Vatican City controls its borders.

Trump does not appear prepared to deport the millions of others who are here illegally. Doing so may be legally right, but it could also be seen as cruel. Many illegal immigrants have been in the country for years and have developed deep roots to their families. It would be considered a savage act if President Trump also included these people in his plans for deportation.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, there are 1.9 million "removable criminal aliens" in the country in 2013.

President Trump has also pledged to build a border wall with Mexico.
