Reince Priebus and Steve Bannon have been chosen to serve in the White House.

President-elect Donald Trump has named his chief of staff and top adviser.

Highlights

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - GOP Chairman Reince Priebus and Trump's campaign CEO and Breitbart News' executive chairman have been named chief of staff and top adviser, respectively.

In a news release Sunday, Trump stated: "Steve and Reince are highly qualified leaders who worked well together on our campaign and led us to a historic victory.

"Now I will have them both with me in the White House as we make America great again."

A campaign release stated: "Bannon and Priebus will continue the effective leadership team they formed during the campaign, working as equal partners to transform the federal government, making it much more efficient, effective and productive."

According to Politico, Bannon is a controversial choice as he and House Speaker Paul Ryan have collided in the past.

After Bannon's new title was announced, many criticized him for past allegations of domestic violence involving his ex-wife. He was also attacked for allegedly claiming he didn't want his children attending schools with Jewish people.

Bannon denied both accusations and claimed Trump made the right choice, adding he worked well with Priebus during the campaign and believes they can work together to help Trump.

"We had a very successful partnership on the campaign, one that led to victory," Bannon said in a statement. "We will have that same partnership in working to help President-elect Trump achieve his agenda."

Despite many questioning his decision, Trump proudly declared: "I am thrilled to have my very successful team continue with me in leading our country."

Meanwhile, Priebus was a shoe-in when Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell pressured Trump to choose him for the chief of staff position.

An unnamed source spoke to Trump about Priebus and explained: "Reince, given the names discussed, is the best choice. He is well liked on Capitol  Hill. He has a great relationship with Paul Ryan."

Priebus released a statement, in which he explained: "It is truly an honor to join President-elect Trump in the White House as his Chief of Staff.

"I am very grateful to the President-elect for this opportunity to serve him and this nation as we work to create an economy that works for everyone, secure our borders, repeal and replace Obamacare and destroy radical Islamic terrorism. He will be a great President for all Americans."

Priebus has worked with Archbishop Timothy Dolan, the Catholic Archbishop of New York, to help change both the Republican party and the face of the Church to focus on more serious topics such as abortion, pre-marital sex, homosexuality, same-sex marriage, birth control, stem cells and the ordination of women.

Priebus appeared on "Face the Nation" March 17, 20013 and stated: "We have to relate things to people's lives. We have to win the math war, which we do a good job of but we're going to have to learn how to learn the heart of war, and that's what in presidential elections, what is plaguing our party."

He even released a report stating the importance of "connecting people to our policies...If we believe our policies are the best ones to improve the lives of the American people, all the American people, our candidates and office holders need to do a better job talking to normal people, people-oriented terms, and we need to go to communities where Republicans do not normally go to listen and make our case.

"We need to campaign among Hispanic, black, Asian and gay Americans and demonstrate that we care about them too."

As an Eastern Orthodox Christian, Priebus will hopefully make an excellent, moral chief of staff.
