Florida Congresswoman faces serious indictment charges

An important member of Congress has been indicted with multiple charges of fraud involving a major charity scam. How is it that a major news publication like the New York Times could initially ignore fraudulent charges involving Congress?

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - News that Florida Democratic Representative Corrine Brown was charged in a 24-count indictment broke early on July 8, but if you read the New York Times you wouldn't have known this.

Brown and her chief of staff, Elias Simmons, were indicted for their roles in the fraudulent educational charity, One Door for Education Foundation. Public court documents revealed the charity's scheme to defraud donors out of $800,000 solely to benefit two individuals, one of whom is believed to be Brown.

According to a news release from the Justice Department, the indictment includes charges of participating in a conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, multiple counts of mail and wire fraud, concealing material facts on required financial disclosure forms, theft of government property, obstruction of the due administration of the internal revenue laws, and filing false tax returns.

Although both Brown and Simmons have plead not guilty, Brown stepped down as the senior Democrat on the House Veterans Affairs Committee to "avoid distracting from the committee's work."

"They're all together. The goal is to get rid of Corrine Brown," Brown previously stated, explaining that investigations into her were because of her new congressional district, according to the Washington Examiner.

As news of Brown's scheme broke, it took the New York Times nearly an entire day, and criticism from the Washington Examiner, for the publication to release any news on the matter.

Does this decision mirror the country's low expectations of Congress members, or does it reveal something deeper?

Do readers turn to the New York Times KNOWING they're liars or are the American people more victims of corruption and extreme bias?
