It's time for Obama to respect States' Rights. Let HB2 and the will of the people stand!

North Carolina has struck back against the Obama administration, defending the state's right to pass laws in the public self interest. The counter-suit is a response to the Justice Department's edict that North Carolina halt enforcement of its bathroom law.

LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - North Carolina's House Bill 2, mandates that each person should use the restroom that corresponds to their sex at birth. The law is a response to the revelation that many people, known as "transsexuals," self-identify as a member of the opposite sex and deliberately use the wrong bathroom.
However, such behavior isn't new and has likely been going on forever. Many transsexuals appear to be the opposite sex, and blend in when using the restroom of their preferred identity. For example, a woman may have female DNA and female body parts, but she may also have facial hair and identify as a man. These women have been using men's restrooms for years, often without much notice.
The concern however, stems from fear that heterosexual men, predators to be exact, might take advantage of places that have "inclusive" restroom policies. In such a case, a pervert could follow a child into a restroom of another sex to have access to a potential victim.
Women are also concerned that transsexual men could use their restrooms and act out.
Restrooms are places people should feel comfortable, and it can be very uncomfortable to share a restroom while also worrying about one's safety.
North Carolina's bathroom law is about safety and creating that atmosphere for the vast majority of people who use the restroom in public. For the remainder, unisex restrooms are frequently available. Also, nobody is proposing to actually check people before entering the restroom.
But there is a much bigger story here. North Carolina's HB2 is an act of civil disobedience. The Justice Department claims the bill violates Title VII of the Civil Rights Act.
It's possible, depending on how one interprets key terms, but also irrelevant to the larger issue, which is one of state's rights.
We have 50 states, which is an intentional construct meant to offer people different ways to live and be. Life in Florida is much different from life in North Dakota. Why should all states be alike? Why can't one state have all unisex-bathrooms and another state separate them out by gender?
People want to be left alone to live in the way that is most natural for them. Obviously the people of North Carolina feel safer if their bathrooms are strictly segregated by gender. So be it. Another state may adopt the opposite view. So be it.
It's time for the Federal Government to stop with their one-size-fits-all approach to everything. There will be conservative states and liberal states. People may want to relocate. They have that right.
By making every state the same, the government crushes the rights of the states, and in a way, the rights of the majority of individuals who live in those states.
Our government is supposed to be for the people, not for itself. Hopefully North Carolina gets to make its own decision about what laws it wants, and the rest of the nation can learn to respect that.
