Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.

ICE gets more money, deports fewer illegals. Where's the money going?

The U.S. must do more to combat illegal immigration.

Where is the money going? Congress continues to allocate money to get people who don't belong in our country back home, but deportations are dropping according to new numbers. So, where is the money going?

Highlights

LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - Breitbart News has released a chart that illustrates how Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is receiving more money, but deporting fewer people.

In 2012, ICE deported over 410,000 illegal immigrants. That number has declined each year, and in 2015, they have deported a new low of 253,000 illegal immigrants.

At the same time, the agency's budget has increased from $2.7 billion in 2012 to $3.4 billion in 2015.

The decline in the number of deportations is the direct result of Obama's policies, and executive orders that have restricted ICE from doings its job.

So why does ICE need more money?

As illegal immigrants pile up, ICE needs to process and look after an increasing number of people.

Despite the increase in funding, ICE allegedly only has enough resources to remove 4 percent of the estimated illegal immigrant population in the U.S. The agency's former director, John Morton, distributed a memo in 2011, outlining what he felt should be the agency's priorities due to a lack of resources. Int he memo, he pointed out that the agency only has the resources to deport 400,000 people per year, which is less than four percent of the total number of illegal immigrants estimated to be in the United States.

Such arguments are absurd, but have also been used by the Obama administration to curtail deportations.

The fact is, deportation is the cheapest and fastest solution. However, the Obama administration, and his liberal allies, gain a lot of political capital from exacerbating the problem with illegal immigration. Many such immigrants eventually become citizens and earn the right to vote.

However, none of these people ought to become citizens or enjoy amnesty because their very first act in the United States was an illegal one. They have crowded those who wish to come here legally, delaying the entry of law-abiding immigrants. It's morally inappropriate for these people to be ushered to the front of the line, or to live without consequences for their misdeed.

In the meantime, the American taxpayer will continue to subsidize the livings of millions of illegal immigrants.
