'It's not because he's white -- it's because of what he said.'

Thousands attended Donald Trump's Orange County rally - then broke out in violent protest.

Highlights

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - The Trump rally in Costa Mesa's Orange County Amphitheater was overflowing with supporters. There were several supporters who couldn't fit into the amphitheater, leaving them sandwiched between the building and thousands of Trump protesters.

Trump protesters held signs reading "Dump the Trump," "Build a wall around Trump" and "Gender Equality."

Nineteen-year-old Daniel Lujan explained, "I'm protesting because I want equal rights for everybody, and I want peaceful protest."

When tensions between Trump supporters and protesters boiled over into violence, Lujan stated, "I knew this was going to happen. It was going to be a riot. He deserves what he gets."

According to the Los Angeles Times, the crowds consisted primarily of young Latinos protesting Trump's wall and anti-Mexican statements.

Jose Cruz, a 21-year-old protester, pointed toward other protesters outside the amphitheater. "This is the anger people have against Trump," he stated. "It's not because he's white -- it's because of what he's said."

Part of Trump's fame are his anti-Mexican and anti-Muslim statements including a call for "a total and complete shutdown of Muslims" entering the United States.

Orange County, much like most of California, is a melting pot of diversity. With the ever-increasing rise of Latino citizens, Trump's presence was bound to result in a large protest.

City spokesman Tony Doredo prepared for the worst before the rally and called for over fifty Orange County sheriff's deputies, twelve Costa Mesa officers, mounted units and helicopters.

Officers wore riot gear and when the violence broke out, the mounted units attempted to corral peaceful protesters away from the fighting.

CBS News described the riot as chaotic as lines of officers attempted to clear the streets.

One woman screamed, "Whose streets?" as the surrounding crowd responded, "Our streets!"

In an interesting display of protest, one side of the street featured peaceful chanting protests sometimes interrupted by singing or dancing, as the other side of the street was a frenzy of violence resulting in bleeding citizens and the smashed windows of a police cruiser.

A protester stood on the vehicle and began to jump, then quickly jumped to the ground and a group attempted to flip the car.

Footage showed protesters carrying benches to block the entrance to the 55 freeway as others threw rocks at motorists. The violence continued throughout Trump's speech but thankfully Lr. Mark Stichter of the Orange County sheriff's department reported no major injuries.

The riot was so bizarre there was even a man in a banana costume walking around yelling GMOs are safe to eat.

After bringing the riot under control, Costa Mesa police told CBS LA ten males and seven females were arrested - the ages of whom have yet to be released.

Some of the Trump supporters stood aside and watched as the chaos erupted. Thirty-year-old Colby Nicholson simply stated, "These people are stupid, but Americans are not stupid in general. These are all underage Mexican high schoolers who have nothing to do."

Meanwhile, 19-year-old protester Arianna Perez said, "We could be peaceful and do things different, but if we did, we wouldn't get our voice heard."
