Donald Trump predicts he will be a boring president

Why do we find this claim by Donald Trump so hard to believe?

Donald Trump recently sat down for a lengthy interview in which he predicted a massive recession, but also that he could end the deficit in eight years, while restoring U.S. military power and respect around the globe. He made clear that winning was everything, and that winning the nomination would help him unite the party and the American people.

Highlights

LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - The Washington Post published a long interview with Donald Trump, discussing his plans for America should be become president. Trump's bold style, which has won him support and adoration across the country, was on full display.

The billionaire frontrunner began with a warning, that Wall Street was on a bubble and headed for recession. While the Washington Post dismissed Trump's suggestion, citing a host of economic factors, Trump's concerns resonate with Main Street, which believes that disaster is looming, not prosperity.

As part of their interview, Trump was asked about experience and if his potential running mate would also be an outsider. Trump took a surprising turn with the question and explained that he is seeking to build a cabinet, and will choose a vice president, all based on experience. While Trump has a maverick reputation, it is clear he recognizes some of his limitations, specifically political experience, and he would take a practical approach to running his administration. It's welcome news and a wise move that reveals Trump's savvy.

He also pledged to release a list of about a dozen Supreme Court candidates he might nominate if given the opportunity. The list is intended to soothe conservatives who are worried he might choose a poor replacement for the late conservative justice, Antonin Scalia.

With regard to the deficit, Trump proposed paying it off within eight years. Economists warn this would cost the U.S. $2 trillion per year, or about half of the federal budget, just to pay down the deficit on his proposed schedule. When asked how he could possibly accomplish this, Trump explained that he would renegotiate deals with various stakeholders, such as China.

According to Trump, the U.S. is poorly respected and has accepted poor trade deals. Trump would leverage U.S. economic power to compel other nations to renegotiate debt deals with the USA.

The Republican frontrunner spoke about respect for the United States, and how he would support nuclear disarmament, but that such a position was unrealistic. Instead, he lamented cuts to the military and pointed out that under his administration the world would respect America again. The comment implies Trump would boost military spending and preparation around the world.

Finally Trump acknowledged the rage and the upset across the nation and the fact that it was coming out at his rallies. He explained that he has reduced the size of his events to discourage protests and the threat of violence. However, Trump discussed the role of anger and rage in prompting change.

Americans are very frustrated about the economic recovery which they have not shared in. Wall Street recovered, but Main Street did not. Wages have remained low and unemployment high. When the Bureau of Labor Statistics figure of 5 percent unemployment was mentioned as a counterpoint, Trump explained that the number is inaccurate, and that real unemployment may be as high as 20 percent.

This is the source of the rage. Everyone from hardworking blue collar folks to millennials, are angry because they feel cheated of the American dream. Jobs are hard to find, pay is lousy and there just seems to be no breaks for the middle class. This is what's fueling rebellion against the Republican establishment that still seems like it does not understand the plight of the middle class.

However, Trump has been criticized for his stance on race, women and threats of violence from his supporters. His campaign manager has been charged with battery.

Trump acknowledged the fear and concern surrounding his campaign and his frontrunner status, and he also admitted that he "hit hard" against rivals such as Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio. However, he said that winning is everything, explaining that, "I think you have to break the egg initially."

He embraced his vigilante perception, and even referred to himself as "the Lone Ranger."

Trump suggested he would soften and pivot to the middle some and possibly reach out to candidates he has badly beaten, but for the time being, his focus is on winning. Winning justifies everything, and solves a lot of problems.

Once president, Trump suggested he could be so presidential, he would be boring. Of all his claims, we find this the hardest to believe.
