We ask you, urgently: don’t scroll past this
Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.Help Now >

LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - The United States has always been a haven for immigrants, but at no time in recent history has the proportion been so high. Approximately 19 percent of all people in the country are immigrants.
Although the figures are less certain, there is an estimated 11 million illegal immigrants in the U.S. That figure could be as high as 20 million or even 30 million, but there is no way to know for certain.
The top 5 states with the fastest growing immigrant populations include Georgia, Nevada, North Carolina, Arkansas, and Tennessee.
Immigrants are also having more children than natural born citizens, although this rate is dropping. In 2011, the immigrant birth rate was 63.2 per 1,000 women of childbearing age, which is the lowest figure ever recorded.
Still, between 1970 and 2015, the number of immigrants living in the U.S. Has increased six-fold.
It is obvious that the United States is far from a nation of walls, but is actually very welcoming to immigrants. This is a heartwarming reality of our immigration policy which allows entire families to move to the United States and begin new lives filled with freedom and opportunity. However, there remains a large number of people who will not play by the rules everyone else follows. These are the illegal immigrants.
While those who come to the U.S. Illegally have many motivations, you cannot have a nation if you do not have borders or control who enters your country. Every nation has the right to control its borders, from the USA to the Vatican.
The figures collected by the Census Bureau are important because they allow policymakers to ask questions about how many immigrants should we welcome, how many are assimilating, and what our future policy should be.
