Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.

LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton still hold significant leads in their respective races, but Ted Cruz has inched into striking distance of Donald Trump. Meanwhile, Mitt Romney has filed paperwork with the FEC to run for president.

The past week has been filled with surprises as underdogs and has-beens percolate back into the race. Ted Cruz won critical primary races in Kansas and Maine, bringing him to within 84 delegates of Donald Trump. While he will still need at least a few more states to catch up, his odds of closing the gap are improving. Trump is close to inevitable and Republicans are attempting to rally support for Cruz in a last-ditch effort to seat an establishment candidate.

Another possible insurgency is brewing within the GOP. According to reports, Mitt Romney has filed paperwork with the FEC to run for president. It is unclear if he will announce a bid soon, or what his chances could be, but several primaries have already passed and it will take a massive movement by the GOP to dethrone their own frontrunner and seat someone who has not campaigned for four years.

On the Democratic side of the ticket, Bernie Sanders' campaign clings to life, buoyed with hope after winning several state primaries. Recent wins include Kansas, Nebraska, Minnesota and Maine. However, because the Democrats award delegates based on a proportional basis, Sanders has not really closed the gap with Clinton. Sanders is down by more than 600 pledged delegates. Clinton is close to the nomination with the super-delegates added in.

Sanders is hoping to turn the tide against Clinton, and he attacked her more forcefully during a town hall debate on Sunday night. He criticized Clinton for her ties to Wall Street and the establishment. Michigan holds its primary on Tuesday, and Clinton is leading by nearly 20 points in the delegate-rich state.

Clinton is also leading in states like New York and California, which award the greatest share of pledged delegates. While Sanders has pledged to remain in the race until the end, Clinton has regained her aura of invincibility. His primary hope now may be that Clinton is indicted for her emails, something that won't happen at least until May or later, and might not itself make much difference.
