Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton remain on top

The results for Super Tuesday began piling in late last night leaving some presidential candidates hopeful and others less than enthusiastic about their turn outs.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - The clear winners from the day's overall votes appear to be Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.

For the Republicans, Trump took over Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Massachusetts, Tennessee, Virginia and Vermont. Leaving Alaska, Texas and Oklahoma to Ted Cruz and Minnesota to Marco Rubio, his first win of the campaign.

The results for Colorado are expected to come in toward the end of March.

"For the candidates who have not yet won a state, who have not racked up significant delegates, I ask for you to prayerfully consider our coming together," stated Cruz during his Texas victory script, urging the rest of the GOP candidates to drop out of the race to allow him to challenge Trump one-on-one.

Trump now holds 316 of the 1,237 needed delegates and Cruz currently holds 226.

"It might be unusual for a presidential candidate to say this," Hillary Clinton expressed during her Super Tuesday speech in Florida, "But I believe that what America needs today is more love and kindness."

Clinton became the Democratic frontrunner once again after winning Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Massachusetts, Virginia, Tennessee and Texas during the big day. Bernie Sanders took the win in Minnesota, Colorado, Oklahoma and his home state, Vermont.

Although Sanders was able to gain enough votes to allow him to continue in the race, Clinton has become the near-certain Democratic nominee, leading with 1,034 of the 2,383 needed Democratic delegates to Sanders' 408, according to the Associated Press' projected count.

"Just five days ago we began to unmask the true nature of the front runner so far in this race. Five days ago, we began to explain to the American people that Donald Trump is a con artist ... And two weeks from tonight right here in Florida we are going to send a message loud and clear," exclaimed Rubio at his Florida rally, showing no signs of dropping the race.

According to NBC News, none of the current candidates appear ready to leave their campaigns. The "losing" candidates went into Super Tuesday with low expectations and have expressed hope in gaining more delegates even if they lose the state itself.
