'I continue to believe Mr. Trump will not be president.'

On Tuesday, U.S. President Barack Obama predicted presidential hopeful Donald Trump would not become the next president. Since the statement, Trump responded by questioning and critiquing Obama's qualifications.

Highlights

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Following a summit for Southeast Asia nations, President Obama admitted his skepticism of Trump's odds, claiming reality TV is not enough to prepare one for the job.

Obama also commented that Americans are too "sensible" to elect Trump.

"I continue to believe Mr. Trump will not be president. And the reason is that I have a lot of faith in the American people. And I think they recognize being president is a serious job. It's not hosting a talk show, or a reality show. It's not promotion, it's not marketing. It's hard. And a lot of people count on us getting it right."

Though it is touching to hear that Obama trusts his people, the reality is that Trump leads the Republican vote in a 2-1 lead, according to CNN Politics

Should the New Hampshire primary results be the beginning of the presidential trend, Obama will be forced to eat his words.

Though Trump is currently in the lead, Obama stated, "The American people are pretty sensible, and I think they'll make a sensible choice in the end."

The President faced the group of reporters and said people often vent during primaries, and called Trump's campaign entertaining, then added, "But as you get closer, reality has a way of intruding, and these are the folks who I have faith in."

Other reasons Obama believes Trump is incapable is that "pandering" to gain notoriety and news coverage is not what the presidency is about. "Sometimes, [being the president] requires you making hard decisions even when people don't like it, and doing things that are unpopular, and standing up for people who don't have some powerful political constituency."

Obama also expects his successor to know basic foreign policies, leaders' names, basic history, facts and where each country lies on a map -something Trump has experienced trouble with in the past.

Another frightening fact is that the next president will hold the nuclear codes, "and can order 21-year-olds into a firefight and [has] to make sure that the banking system doesn't collapse, and is often responsible for not just the United States of America, but 20 other countries that are having big problems, or are falling apart and are gonna be looking for us to [do] something."

Though Obama clearly has no faith in Trump's abilities, Trump took the President's comments as a "compliment" and, at his South Carolina rally, Trump stated, "He has done such a lousy job as president," adding, "You look at our budgets. You look at our spending. We can't beat ISIS. Obamacare is terrible. We're going to terminate it.

"We're going to absolutely terminate and replace it. I mean you look at everything. Our borders are like Swiss cheese."

Turning his attention directly to Obama, Trump said, "You're lucky I didn't run last time when Romney ran because you would have been a one-term president...

"This man has done such a bad job -- he has set us back so far, and for him to say that actually is a great compliment, if you want to know the truth."
