Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.Help Now >

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - CBS reported a State Department official saying the United States has revoked over 122,000 visas since 2001, 9,500 of which were revoked based on possible threats of terrorism.
Assistant secretary for the Bureau of Consular Affairs, Michele Thoren Bond, explained the security protocol before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, saying security reviews continue, even after someone is issued a visa. Bond continued, stating that the United States is constantly matching new threat intelligence with records of revoked visas and visa waivers.FoxNews presented footage of the meeting, where the House Oversight Committee "grilled the State Department and Homeland Security for not looking into the media of people coming into the United States."
Rep. Jason Chaffetz said, "The immigration screening process is a critical element in protecting the American people. You got to lock down that border, you got to get rid of the people who are here committing crimes for goodness sake. They're here illegally committing crimes and you all release them out in the public.
"Some 60 plus thousand times you did that. These are the criminal element, don't tell me about the nice, you know, lady who is just trying to help her family. These are people commit crimes, get caught, they are convicted, they are in your hands, and then Homeland Security says they can go back out in the community."Chaffetz continued on his heated warpath and asked Bond, "How many revoked visas are still in the United States of America?"
She remained silent and, after waiting a reasonable amount of time, Chaffetz asked, "You don't have a clue, do you?"
Returning his attention to members of the House Oversight Committee, Chaffetz said: "She couldn't even tell me if more people come in by land, by sea or by air. She thinks most people come in by air, and she's in charge of screening.
"You could see why we're scared to death that this administration, the Department of Homeland Security, the State Department is not protecting the American people."
Lawmakers also questioned why public social media postings are not routinely examined when people attempt to enter the United States.
Rep. Stephen Lynch added, "If half the employers are doing it in the United States of America, if colleges are doing it for students, why wouldn't Homeland Security do it? We don't even look at their public stuff, that's what kills me."
