'Oh, and by the way, that's the very alliance that the Bible says will attack Israel in this generation.'

Christian filmmaker Paul Lalonde, who wrote and produced "Left Behind," took to Facebook while watching the Republican debate.

Highlights

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - During the debate, Republican presidential candidates spoke of the current "alliance of Iran and Russia" in the Middle East, which Lalonde was sorry to view as a missed opportunity.

"So I'm watching the debate tonight," Lalonde wrote, "and listening to the candidates talking at some length about the politics in the middle east. They even specifically mention the alliance of Iran and Russia.

"And yet not one of the entire panel of self-professed Christians said 'oh, and by the way, that's the very alliance that the Bible says will attack Israel in this generation". (Ezekiel 38-39)"

Lalonde continued, writing, "Now that would have stirred things up. Maybe next time."
In Ezekiel chapter 38, Ezekiel spread word that God spoke to him of a prophesy against "Gog of the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshek and Tubal."

God then told Ezekiel, "I am against you, Gog, paramount prince of Meshech and Tubal. I shall turn you about, I shall fix hooks in your jaws and bring you out with your entire army, horses and horsemen, all perfectly equipped, a huge array armed with shields and bucklers, and all wielding swords."

The Bible never describes what Gog and Magog are, but some believe they are events that already happened while others hold tight to the fact that God has said He will judge the nations that invade Israel.

The Blaze reported that many evangelicals believe Magog is Russia, based on the Bible saying the forces will originate from the "far north" to join other nations, including Persia, which is modern-day Iran.

During the debate, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie brought up Bashar al-Assad, the Syrian president, and described him as "reckless."

"What reckless is is calling Assad a reformer. What reckless is allowing Russia to come into Crimea and Ukraine. What reckless is is inviting Russia into Syria to team with Iran. That is reckless. And reckless people are the folks in the White House right now. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are the reckless people."

Former Florida governor Jeb Bush and Ohio Governor John Kasich immediately agreed.
Kasich said, " I don't understand this thing about Assad. He has to go. Assad is aligned with Iran and Russia. The one thing we want to prevent is we want to prevent Iran being able to extend a Shia crescent all across the Middle East. Assad has to go."

As Lalonde pointed out, the candidates could have easily mentioned the alliance between Russia and Iran as some believe are outlined in the Old Testament.

Some theologians believe other, future, events around Syria are also prophesied in the Old Testament and will come to pass, possibly within the next few years.

Prophecy experts believe Syria's capital, Damascus, was prophesied in Isaiah 17: 1-3 and Jeremiah 49:23-27, where Damascus was described to one day be a "heap of ruins."

Some believe Damascus has been involved in war on several occasions, therefore the prophecies have already occurred, though many maintain events are only now unfolding.
