Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.Help Now >
Court halts Obama's executive orders with Obama's own words! What were they?
FREE Catholic Classes
A federal appeals court has used Obama's own words to halt his growing use of executive orders that allow him to rule by edict. Their decision specifically halts his edict that shields 5 million illegal immigrants from imminent deportation and that he does not have the authority to ignore enforcement of laws he doesn't like.

LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - A 2-1 ruling by the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals says that Obama must enforce the law and cannot "change the law" by executive order just because he does not like it. The ruling pointed out that the U.S. Attorney, was not able to show that Obama acted within the law by suspending its enforcement.
Obama previously claimed to have the authority to "change the law" when attempting to grant amnesty to those who were in the country illegally.
A total of 26 states sued the Obama administration over his amnesty edict which prevents them from deporting as many as 5 million people who are in their states illegally. Many of these people are drawing state benefits and are under the care of the states while held in legal limbo by the Obama administration.
Obama's edict, which he dubbed the "Deferred Action for Parental Arrivals" (DAPA) granted a three-year amnesty to 5 million illegal immigrants on the basis that they had children here in the U.S. This provided incentive for illegals to have anchor babies, children that are considered American citizens by virtue of their birth, even if their parents refuse to assimilate or participate.
The net effect of the Obama edict is to reduce our immigration laws, to set back those who are waiting to enter the country illegally, by crowding 5 million others in line before them, to increase expenses paid by federal, state and local governments. The edict also increases the power of the Oval Office beyond what was intended in the Constitution.
However, the 5th Circuit court noted this and ruled that the president does not have the power to grant de facto citizenship to millions of people as this is not a power assigned to him by the Constitution.
The Obama administration has filed an appeal which will place the matter before the U.S. Supreme Court.
