We ask you, urgently: don’t scroll past this

Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources—essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.

Congress stands against Iran's nuclear ambitions

Senate Republicans are wholly committed to preventing Iran from gaining the ability to produce nuclear weapons, weapons with which the Islamic Republic has routinely said that it will use to destroy long-time U.S. ally Israel.

Highlights

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Forty-seven Republican Senators have written to Tehran, warning the Iranians that any deal made by President Obama between the two would not likely remain in effect past his presidency.

President Obama's potential deal with Iran is seen by some as his attempt to build a legacy, just two years out from leaving the White House, and many Republicans are unwilling to allow Iran to gain nuclear weapons just so Obama can flush his resume.

Around the world you Christian brethren are suffering, please help!

This is also a sign that Congress is extremely skeptical about Obama's claims that this deal will delay any nuclear weapons program in Iran. This skepticism isn't limited to Republicans either, many Democrats do not support the President's deal, and made such feelings readily apparent by being present for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's speech before Congress earlier this month.

During his speech, Netanyahu warned that a nuclear armed Iran was a danger to Israel, the United States and the entire Middle East. President Obama and White House officials were quick to attack the Prime Minister for offering no new solution.

This new deal must be decided before the end of March, and Obama says it will work by gradually lifting sanctions off Iran, specifically economic sanctions, in return for Iran declining to continue working on their nuclear program, and allowing international advisers to have full access.

President Obama does have the authority to lift some sanctions, but many of those that seriously harm Iran were imposed by Congress, and therefore can only be lifted by Congress.

This ensures that any deal that President Obama attempts to make with Iran, will truthfully be at the mercy of the, now Republican controlled, Congress.
