THE AMERICAN REPUBLIC IS DEAD - The new way politicians take bribes and cut you out of politics

Political corruption in the United States has never been worse. Although members of Congress are not allowed to accept bribes or gifts, they have found a loophole in their own laws they exploit to cash in. Instead of being bought directly, members of Congress, as standard practice, schedule trips on their own and invite lobbyists to pay for them.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - It can be a weekend at a beach resort, of a day on the links, or even a week at Disney World, but wherever it is, the payola doesn't stop. Politicians in U.S. Congress are allowing themselves to be bought, incrementally, by inviting lobbyists to join them on their trips, according to a new exposee by CNN. In exchange for the invitation to tag along, each lobbyist makes a donation to the campaign fun while picking up part, or all of the tab for the trip.

The U.S. government is one of the most corrupt in the world. Few Americans realize this however, but the statistics point to the ugly truth. Two thirds of government welfare are not paid to the poor, but rather to government contractors who live in the Beltway and charge premiums to the government for virtually every service. The total tab of these expenditures is more than double to total paid in welfare benefits to the poor each year.

In addition to lavish paydays for those who serve Congress, laws are passed to satisfy the big interests, even when those laws are against the best interests of the American people. Consider the "net neutrality" debate where the FCC, headed by an Obama appointee, is prepared to create internet "fast lanes" for those companies that pay to use them. However, the term "fast lanes" is a lie. What the proposed new rules will really do is slow down any company that does not pay.

The public outrage over the new rules is overwhelming, but the new rules appear likely to be adopted, in spite of overwhelming public outcry. The reason is that the public no longer has a voice in American politics.

No ordinary citizen can hob nob with a senator, but lobbyists are routinely invited to lavish parties. From wine tasting to beach getaways, the corruption is all part of how politics is done in the U.S.

Few Americans realize there is more turnover in the British House of Lords than in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Districts in the U.S. are gerrymandered to protect incumbents and thanks to rulings like the Citizens United case, corporations may spend unlimited funds to court a politician and essentially buy their loyalty. Corporate money has drowned out the voice of the people from American politics.
