LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) made clear his position on human life and why it is so important to us as individuals. "One of thing worth fighting for is life. I don't think a civilization can long endure that does not have respect for all human life, born and not yet born," he said.

Paul talked about his religion and morality: "My religion is not something I wear on my sleeve. I try to stay true to my family and my faith. I'm a Christian, a husband and a father. I'm faithful to my wife and my family. I try to be good at all those things, though, of course, we all fall short of perfection in our lives. I try to adhere to the tenets of God's word in the New Testament. I take seriously my oath to defend the Constitution. And I try to fight for truth and my values regardless of the political outcome, regardless of how popular or unpopular they may be."

Then he explained, "Though I believe in limited powers for the federal government, I believe, as our founders did, that primary among these powers and duties is the protection of life, that government cannot protect liberty if it does not first protect life."

In the same speech, Paul also talked about immigration reform and why it is important as a nation for us to tackle this issue. He addressed issues of compassion and how they should apply to any future legislation.

Paul himself is the great grandson of immigrants, and he supports comprehensive immigration reform. He has gone on record saying that he does not support the deportation of millions of illegal immigrants who already live in this country.

"First, everyone has to acknowledge that we aren't going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants."

However, he also explained that it is vital nation secure its borders.

Of the debate Paul said, "Unfortunately, like many of the major debates in Washington, immigration has become a stalemate-where both sides are imprisoned by their own rhetoric or attachment to sacred cows that prevent the possibility of a balanced solution."

Paul C. you is one that is quite consistent with Catholic morality. While all people should be expected to follow the law, all people should also be treated with compassion. Also importantly, we must evolve our culture so that it becomes the culture of life, rather than a culture of death which is presently. It is no court said it's that when the United States had a culture of life, that we enjoyed some of our greatest prosperity as a nation, and that when we began to develop a culture of death, we also began to experience a wide range of problems including moral and economic malaise.

At least one political figure in Washington seems to get it.
